Born in the UK’s West Midlands where he spent his childhood and early schooling, he earned a scholarship to Leighton Park School, in Reading, UK, where he completed A levels.
He attended the Mid Warwickshire College of Further Education and simultaneously the Lanchester Polytechnic, now Coventry University, to start a chemistry degree. In 1975 he was admitted to the University of Liverpool Medical School and graduated in 1980.
Stephen was schooled and lived in the UK but since 2000 has lived in North America. He started in Research Triangle Park, NC but then moved to the West Coast in 2002 where he has remained ever since (CA, OR, WA and BC). In 2013 he moved to Vancouver, BC, Canada where he met and married his wife, Evelyn and they now live in Fallbrook, California.
